Sheffpixie picked up a piece from Channel 4 news about the situation facing Syrian women and children refugees in Jordan.

Horrific report on C4 about whats happening to Syrian women and girls in the refugee camps in Jordan. Men from Saudi, the Emirates and Jordan are trying, and in some cases succeeding in buying them for ‘pleasure marriages’ that can last from one hour to a month – plus kidnappings, sex trafficking, forced prostitution and slavery.

Whole families of women and children in the camps without protection from the men who are back in Syria fighting. Sometimes I despair of our species…. Instead of seeing whats going on and intervening to help – there are those who simply see it as an opportunity to exploit the vulnerable for a cheap shag and to make money trafficking. I’m raging!!

No question about who the guilty parties are in this – Men from Saudi, the Emirates and Jordan.

Doubtless chastised by the pro-Islamists on the site, the following day came this retraction:

Don’t know what the Turnstone (who he?) was on about last night – the main ‘clash of civilisations’ I can see in the context I raised is the one between people who see exploiting and brutalising the weak and vulnerable as an opportunity to be grasped and those who don’t. There are no national, cultural or religious boundaries to that clash as it happens everywhere.

Note how the “men” in the first quote has become “people” in the second.  As to “There are no national, cultural or religious boundaries to that clash as it happens everywhere.”

Everywhere?

No cultural or religious boundaries?    You mean these men acting out Muslim cultural norms about the inferior status of women were probably a mixture of Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and atheists?
